Meet Mathias

Mathias started as an apprentice and was trusted with responsibility. The room to make decisions and find his role has kept him engaged ever since

Mathias – PTA Specialist

I joined HB Products more than 10 years ago as an apprentice. Today, I work as a PTA Specialist, developing test equipment, supporting production, and helping solve technical challenges across the organization.

For me, the combination of software, electronics, and hands-on problem solving is what makes the job interesting. It is the opportunity to use both his mind and his hands that keeps me engaged.

Developing Solutions and Supporting Production

My work is centred around developing test equipment and improving the products we already have.

A lot of it involves software and firmware, making sure our products can be tested properly and perform as intended. At the same time, I support production and help customers with technical challenges, whether it is troubleshooting sensors or setting up prototypes.

Taking Responsibility from Day One

One of the things that surprised me most when I started was how much responsibility I was given.

Even as an apprentice, I was trusted to manage tasks on my own and contribute to the products we were developing. That was something I noticed very early on.

"My role has changed quite a bit over the years. I started as an apprentice, then became a PTA Engineer and later a Team Lead. Today, I am back in a specialist role. I am a bit of a technical nerd, so being able to write code, build solutions, and see progress in development is what really motivates me."

Finding the Right Role

My role has changed quite a bit over the years. I started as an apprentice, then became a PTA Engineer and later a Team Lead. Today, I am back in a specialist role.

What I have learned is that I enjoy development, coding, and technical problem solving more than managing people.

I am a bit of a technical nerd, so being able to write code, build solutions, and see progress in development is what really motivates me.

What Keeps Me Motivated

I have always been very technically minded, so the technical side of the work is what I enjoy most.

I like developing solutions, writing code, and solving problems. At the same time, I appreciate that the role is not purely theoretical. I can develop something and then work with it in practice as well.

A Changing Workday

I have a very practical approach to things and enjoy working hands-on.

At the same time, the job requires flexibility because no two days are the same. You do not always know what the day will bring, and sometimes something more urgent suddenly becomes the top priority.

Being able to adapt is an important part of the role.

When Experience Solves the Problem

One experience that stands out was a visit to a customer together with Henrik, our Product Manager.

We were trying to understand why a sensor worked perfectly on one system but not on another. After investigating the issue, we discovered that the sensor was actually working exactly as intended. It was simply revealing a different problem elsewhere in the system.

It was a technically challenging task, but it was also rewarding because it showed how experience, knowledge, and collaboration can come together to find the right solution.

Why HB Products?

What I appreciate most is the freedom I have in my work.

I am free to choose the solution I believe is best, both technically and in terms of how I plan my tasks. There is a high degree of flexibility in how you approach your work, and that suits me very well.
